Early Vision Intervention

The World Health Organisation estimates that 52 percent of the global population will have myopia by 2050. There are a combination of factors which are believed to be contributing to the myopia epidemic including, increased amount of time spent on digital devices and not enough time spent outdoors. It is speculated that the pandemic fuelled the increasing numbers of myopia. If detected earlier there are ways of slowing down the progression and hence severity of myopia. This is of importance as severe myopia makes a person more suspectable to developing ocular and retinal diseases in the future.

In response to the increasing prevalence of myopia in school aged children we have developed an Early Vision Intervention program. The EVI program runs annually where our optometrist will check children at their individual Schools and Preschools across NSW. We seen more than 2000 Students throughout Public Schools in NSW. Unlike preschool and school screening checks our program is a comprehensive eye examination performed by AHPRA registered optometrist with a special interest in Paediatric Optometry. Students will checked for their glasses prescription, binocular vision, colour vision and ocular health.

At the conclusion of the eye test students will be provided with a written report to be given to the parent. Students that require glasses will be fitted up with Spectacles at no cost to the parent and/or School.
